A Pair of Famille Verte Dishes

Kangxi period (1662-1722)

Reference#: P2609

Diameter: 15 inches (38.1 cm.)

Each circular dish with everted rim and barbed and lobed edge, decorated in underglaze blue, famille verte enamels and gilt. Painted in the center with a mountainous scene with pagodas nestled on the banks of a calm river as a solitary figure floats beneath a bridge on a sampan, the rim with eight quatrefoil panels each containing a different flowering sprig enclosed by floret-filled honeycomb, cash, cloud and trellis diapers each appearing twice, the reverse with four iron red and green floral sprays. The base painted in underglaze blue with an artemisia leaf within a double line circle.
