the exterior painted on the front with the arms and crest of Scott surrounded by elaborate gilt mantling within a roundel reserved on a ground of famille rose blossoms, buds and scrolling foliage, and the interior with a rose, white and turquoise peony sprig beneath a gilt band around the rim.

The teapot from this service, sold at Christie’s in London on January 29, 1994, lot 75, is illustrated by Kroes, p. 179, cat. no. 91, who comments that the service was made probably for Balthasar Scott (1672-1741), a merchant and public functionary, who was one of the richest men in Amsterdam at the time of his death.
